Day 29: Hot Bikram Yoga

The heat was ON today! Wow. I took the noon class and it was 101 degrees outside in Scottsdale today and it was still hotter inside. The instructor opened the door to the outside at the end of class to get a breath of fresh air in the room and it was cooler outside than inside. Good ol’ Bikram style! They  really know how to make you sweat!

Day 28: Bikram Yoga

It felt good to get back to my Bikram roots! :-) I  took class today at the very studio I began Bikram yoga at and started teaching at after getting certified in 2002. My good friend and owner of the studio, Andrea, taught class and it was very energetic and fun!

Day 27: Yin Yoga

Today’s class was in the yoga room at our condo complex. It is a very nice space with beautiful wood floors. I lead a Yin Yoga class and I had to modify a few poses for Jason who sprained his ankle last night walking home from dinner. Poor guy, and for the record, he only had two beers. It was really dark and he did not see the hole that had been dug around a tree on the sidewalk.

Day 26: Vinyasa Basics

I’m finding it helpful to do a basics class now and then. It is good to really look at my own alignment in the poses and it also gives me a chance to really work on my breath. Also, my husband attended class with me which is always a good thing! :-)

Day 25: Power Vinyasa

My muscles feel stronger today. I am happy to have made 25 days straight of yoga so far!  Can I make it to 365?…..

Day 24: Vinyasa Yoga

Today my balance was really off. I think it’s because I did the late evening class last night and the early class today. My muscles are still recovering.

Day 23: Power Vinyasa

Fun class.  The instructor was new to me and she did several poses that I had never done before.  I don’t know how long it will take me to be able to do  ”flying bird pose” or “bird of paradise pose”.  It is always fun to try the poses even if you can’t fully do them.  As long as you try your best you are still getting the benefits!

Day 22: Ashtanga

Ashtanga is what Vinyasa is based on.  The class follows a series of poses.  This is a good class for building upper body strength.  I also noticed my ankles are extremely tight.  Hopefully, I will be able to improve this over the next year!

High School students are getting into yoga!

Day 21: Power Vinyasa

Most of the students in class today seemed to be advanced and the instructor seemed to know most of them.  I am not ready for the headstands.  I still don’t feel strong enough.  I will stay in the “prep” phase of the pose for now.
