Day 60: Yoga Basics

Very good basics class. I was able to take this class with a friend today and I really enjoy doing that. It’s more fun having someone to talk to before and after class. What a great way to do something good for you while connecting wtih friends!  Helps the mind and the body.

Day 59: Ashtanga

This class went OK. I notice my Vinyasa’s (Upward & Downward Dog Poses) are very strong. I feel that I can do the transition between them correctly now. That means I am getting stronger. It feels good. The instructor was sick today so somebody different led the class. We did the Primary Ashtanga Series.  I’m still scared to do the handstands and headstands.

Day 58: Bikram Yoga

I really started class strong today. However, my energy tanked right after the balancing series. It was like a little switch had turned off and I did the rest of class on “empty”. Overall, class felt good. I am noticing my flexibility improving as well.

Day 57: Ashtanga

Before class started, I went to go to the bathroom and experienced an opportunity to practice “being in the moment”.  One of the bathrooms was unlocked and when I opened the door, the woman inside had forgotten to lock it.  Luckily she was just washing her hands.  She said “come in, I’m almost done here”, and I couldn’t think of an excuse to wait outside, so I went in.   She told me about her yoga class that she just finished and how much she liked the teacher.  She was very nice and I was happy to meet her.  The old me would have been hurrying to get back to my mat before class started.  I would not have taken the time to listen and I’d be looking for another bathroom.  Practicing “living in the moment”, I exhaled, cherished the fact that we as humans have the ability to connect with others, and by connecting with this person I would, at most, be a few minutes late to class.  My mat was already in the room, so I could easily sneak in and join class.  As it turned out, I entered just as they were finishing a chant, which I didn’t know anyway.  Good timing! :-)

Great Ashtanga class! Only 5 students, so we each got a lot of individual attention. This doesn’t happen very often. It was great! We attempted some advanced postures that I’ve never done before, which was fun.

Day 56: Yoga and Body Rolling

This was a great class! Someone recommended it to me so I decided to give it a try. After all, I have 365 classes to do this year, so I have nothing to lose if I don’t like it!  It was really fun. The instructor handed everybody three different size balls. Then she had us place certain ones in different places on our body and we rolled on it. You could really feel the ball massaging your muscles. The instructor had us roll on one small ball, under our bellies to get into the “toxic pit” as she called it.  By getting movement and circulation in that area, your body is able to get rid of the toxins easier.  I felt so relaxed and good when I was done with class. I think I will go back.

Day 55: Bikram Yoga

Today was a good Bikram class. It seems that by alternating different types of yoga classes, my practice becomes stronger.

Day 54: Post Canyon Yoga Stretch

Day 53: Power Yoga

Today was a great class. Even though it was not as hot as Bikram, I really worked up a sweat. Also, the hip opening stretches were really good for me to do before driving to the Grand Canyon!
