Day 41: Restorative Yoga

Today, the class that fit in my schedule was called “Restorative Yoga”. I have never actually taken a class by that name before, so I thought it would be a good time to try it. I was expecting something more along the lines of Yin Yoga with longer held stretching poses. This was mostly about putting your body in a position, using lots of blankets for props, and staying in it for a while. Each student had 5 blankets each to help them with the poses. It seemed that this class would be really helpful for people with injuries or who are looking for a meditation element in their practice.

Day 40: Hour of Power Yoga

This was a great, upbeat class in a warm room. Not hot like Bikram, but warm. We moved through the poses quickly and I started sweating profusely. I think I sweated about as much as in Bikram Yoga class. I liked that the instructor incorporated advanced inversion postures for the students who wanted them, but then had a more basic pose for those not ready for the inversions. This was a nice way of doing it. Many times the instructor has the class do inversions and then if I am not feeling strong enough to do them that day, I end up just trying to flounder doing a partial pose.
