Day 142: Bikram Yoga Home Practice

I tried it again today. I was even worse. I started out good, but by the end I started a Yin type class when I got to the floor poses. My mind started to drift and I held some poses a long time while I was thinking of what I had to do that day. I think tomorrow I need to go to a studio.

Day 141: Home Practice Bikram Yoga

Yesterday I drove to the Kahului Bikram studio which is about a 40 minute trip. I did not anticipate the road construction I ran into, so I was 5 minutes late and the door was locked. So instead, I did my Costco shopping, which paid off because they had some composters in! I picked one up because it was the exact model I had been looking for. This will work well for us since we want to start a nice garden and the key to a healthy garden is nutrient rich compost. Not to mention the amount of waste this will reduce!

Today, I practiced at home because it is such a far drive to the studio. I didn’t have the heat, but that was OK. I can see now that the problem doing it at home for me is I tend to shorten the time I hold the poses. I found myself counting to 20 instead of 30 seconds. Oh well, more time to work on my garden! :-)

Day 140: P90X Yoga Class

The P90X Videos have a strictly yoga class. My husband and I did this one together. It was similar to a tough Vinyasa Class I’ve had. I was actually very impressed with the flow of the poses and definitely felt like I had a good workout when I was done.  It seemed like we hit all my favorite poses.  He called crow pose by a different name.  I’m not sure if different people have different names for the poses, or if he just mixed up the names.  There was definitely a different feeling doing it our living room. Yoga studio’s are more conducive to a meditative practice.

Day 139: P90X Plyometrics and Yoga

So, today I decided to do a P90X workout with my husband. I was impressed with the knowledge of yoga that the trainer had. He is a real promoter of yoga which is great. This class provided a good cardio workout, as well as, the strengthening and stretching that a typical yoga class usually provides.

Day 138: Yin Yoga

My shoulders were sore after yesterdays class. Today I needed to do some deep stretching for my tired muscles. No pain no gain right?

Day 137: Vinyasa Fusion Class

Scorpion PoseWhat a wonderful yoga class today in a beautiful studio with windows looking out into the rainforest. This class was taught by a Maya Yoga intructor and was really fun and challenging. There was a nice energy you could feel. The class was two hours long, but moved so quickly, only my muscles realized it. We attempted Scorpion Pose, and I was only able to do the set up for it today. Yesterday we tried it also and my muscles were still feeling it. I did not feel strong enough to try getting my feet off the ground. The instructor helped me with a shoulder opening pose instead which was very helpful. The studio was far, and down a dirt road. It took about an hour to get there, but definitely worth the trip. I think I will try to make it there again soon!

Day 136: Anusara Yoga Class

I have about a week’s worth of yoga classes to make up. I simply could not fit it in. I think my body had been asking for a little break as well. One thing I did notice in class today was that the pain I had been feeling in my arm from the time I went too far in wheel, is completely gone. That is very reassuring. I noticed some aches in my feet though. I have some kinks to work out over the next few practices.
Today’s class was a Led class, which I probably should avoid until I learn Anusara better. The teacher was OK, a very pretty blonde with green eyes, who had a bit of an ego, but really “led” us instead of teaching us. I went with a friend of my next door neighbor’s, and that was nice. We might try an ashtanga class tomorrow. Taught, not led, so it’s bound to be better.

Day 135: Vinyasa

I didn’t sleep very well last night so I was hoping a morning class would help me energize for the day. We have so much to do to get ready for our trip back home next week and I was thinking about all the things I needed to get done instead of getting some z’s. The class included a 7 minute meditation, which actually went by a lot faster than I expected. It was a nice class, not too fast, but just enough intensity to make me feel like I did something. It definitely helped me feel more awake and ready for what the day will bring!
